FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Thank you for your ongoing support during the year - our staff and students appreciate it.

Exams will conclude for Year 8 and 9 during this week.

Year 8 and 9 Reports will be distributed on Thursday 11 December at 2:45 pm. in form meetings. This will only occur for students who have been in attendance for the full day. Reports for most other students who have not attended that day will become available from the school office on Friday 12 December from 8.00 am until 12.00 pm. Unfortunately we can not be flexible about this due to the time needed for collation. Please Note: the school office will be closed from 12.00 pm until 1:30pm on Friday 12 December 2008.

Year 12‘s are encouraged to view their SAI’s from the courtyard windows in the administration block.

Year 10 and 11 student reports are available on Monday 08 December from 8.00 am.

I hope you have participated in our many end of year celebrations and on behalf of the staff at Aldridge State High I wish you all a restful and enjoyable break.

From the Principal

This week is full of school emotion as we wish our Year 12’s good luck and farewell. They will end their Aldridge schooling as they began it five years ago by walking through our assembly of Staff and Students. The weeks activities will include: Safety Talks, Rainbow Beach trip, the Formal and Year 12 Parade. It is a time to enjoy and savour. I ask for the assistance of Parents and Students to ensure that the week runs smoothly. Congratulations Year 12’s and good luck for the future.

We are starting a new service with our website that we hope you will take advantage of. We will be loading short video sequences of our student’s achievements. The first link available is footage taken at the State Volleyball Competition, however, we shortly hope to have two other links up. Please go to our website at: http://aldridgeshs.eq.edu.au/wcmss/ and look under “Latest News”. You can also view electronic newsletters on this site as well.

Following are some important dates for the end of this year:

Ø  Year 12’s last day—Friday, 21 November 2008.

Aldridge Volleyball
Sensational !!
Our largest volleyball contingent so far took away five teams this year to the 2008 Queensland School’s Cup. The schools cup is the major statewide volleyball tournament for Queensland and involves in the order of 250 teams from throughout the State.
Of our three Honours teams playing in the top division, the results are:
Ø Aldridge Year 8 Boys won gold (1st in the State);
Ø Aldridge Year 10 Boys won gold (1st in the State); and
Ø Aldridge Year 10 Girls came fourth (4th in the State).
Of our two 2nd Division teams, the results are -
Ø Aldridge Year 8 Girls won silver; and
Ø Aldridge Year 8 Boys finished 9th.
Of the medal performances, Aldridge defeated such volleyball schools as Holland Park, Craigslea, Harristown and Private Schools like Brisbane Grammar. Special thanks to the coaches: Sam Manley (Student), Kris Tassotti, Terrie Dittman, Gavin Grantz and Rob Thiele, without whom such results would not be possible.
The Volleyball program at Aldridge puts our Virtues program into action. It is about developing fine young men and women—who are also volleyballers.
