From The Principal
Our School Report is now published on the school website. It is a report on the 2006 school year. I would encourage everyone to view this report.
The new Manual Arts shed is nearing completion and will provide space for two additional Manual Arts classes. The Outdoor Restaurant between I and M Blocks is also nearing completion and will be used by our Home Economics and Hospitality students, as well as a general purpose undercover area.
We have been successful in applying for a water grant for a pool cover for the pool. The cover will be mainly utilised in the six month period, Easter through September.
Report Cards were distributed to students Thursday of last week. A different format to usual. This is the format of A-E reporting, along with some other changes that the government introduced to increase conformity across schools. This will be the format for our end of semester reports while our mid-semester reports will remain the same as the Term 1 report sent out earlier. Parent/Teacher interviews are being held on Thursday, 19 July from 3.30 pm

offered across the District, at a number of schools, focusing on technology. We had 20 teachers obtain a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment which is required for them to teach VET.

Change of School Phone Number
As of Tuesday, 17 July 2007 our telephone system has been upgraded and our new school phone number is 4120 8444. At this stage, the student absentee line is not yet operational, and as such parents will need to contact the new school number to record their student’s absence. Parents will be advised when the absentee line is up and running.
We apologise in advance if we lose your call during this transition period for our new phone system.
Thank you for your understanding.
Payment Options for the Deposit and Resource Scheme
¨ The $20.00 Deposit and consent form must be returned to the school prior to commencement.
¨ Payment can be made by cash, cheque, Bankcard, Visa, MasterCard, EFTPOS, direct deposit or Centrelink deductions. A receipt will be provided.
¨ Payments can be made by instalment, by making three payments, one on the first day of each term, being (date 1, date 2, date 3).
¨ Families experiencing genuine financial difficulty are invited to contact the Principal or Registrar so that special arrangements and a mutually agreeable repayment schedule can be made. All discussions will be held in confidence.
Consequence of Non-Payment
Participation in the scheme is voluntary. However, if parents choose to join the scheme a fee will be charged.
Before a student can be considered for activities such as excursions, camps, the Formal, purchase of Senior Jerseys and shirts, a parent who has joined the scheme is expected to have:
¨ Fully paid the resource fees; or
¨ Paid the resource fee up to and including the term in which the school activity takes place; or
¨ Have made regular on-going payments towards the resource fees, as previously arranged with the school principal.
A parent who does not wish to contribute to the scheme is responsible for providing the student with necessary items and covers the cost of activities for engaging in the curriculum.
A student may be refused admission to the scheme if there are payments outstanding by a family from the previous year and debt recovery action may be commenced. Parents of effected students will be required to have an interview with the Principal or Registrar, prior to enrolment in the new year.
Pay your school fees by Centrelink Deduction
We have negotiated with Centrelink an arrangement to assist families with the payment of their school fees. Centrelink, with your permission, deduct a fortnightly amount from your payment, and forward it to the school. When the amount has been paid in full, the deduction will automatically cease. If you would like more information on this option or would like to sign up, please contact the Registrar (Cynthia Read) on 4121 5616.
Change of Family Details
If you have moved recently, could you please advise the school of your new mailing address details and new telephone number. If there has been a change in family circumstances ie. Change of emergency contacts, Family separation. It is very important that the school be aware of all family situations and that we have your current contact details, especially in emergency situations, when your student may require medical attention.
P&C News
We are pleased to report that there is a very real possibility of the School Hall finally being paid off in the next few months. A big thank you to all the people who dug deep and helped out this year. However, we are hoping for some more donations to help us realise our goal. To assist us with finalising the loan, we are asking everybody to send their donations to the school office by the end of July. Up until this time all donations received will be tax deductible. This will no longer be the case when the loan has been repaid.
Please make the returning of your donation envelopes a priority as we would really like to have the hall repaid as soon as possible.
Paying off this hall has consumed P&C resources for long enough - help us to move onto other worthwhile projects to benefit your students.

P&C Treasurer

Aldridge SHS Students Help Set The Pace For ICT
Our school has received State Government funding so students can lead an innovative project that makes 21st century technologies integral to their own learning.
Their project requires them to design a robot to act as a farm manager and respond to different stimuli eg. pests, fire, weather conditions and much more. We will do this by enlisting the help of a very diverse group of students. We will have a Year 8 class from the SEU building a model farm for our robot testing, Year 10/11/12 programmers crunching code to control the robot and others engaged in related activities. The project will not only enhance the students’ curriculum goals but will also foster positive relationships between the diverse selection of participants.
Through this project, our school is acknowledging that our students are digital natives: they are growing up in a world surrounded by information and communications technology (ICT). So, they are in an ideal position to explore the ways we can make ICT integral to their everyday school experience.
The funding to implement this project is offered through Student ICT Pacesetters, an initiative of the Smart Classrooms strategy. This year, 37 state schools are taking part in this initiative statewide.
