These are exciting and changing times in education. State and National agendas are emerging quickly that will mean changes in our school:

·          Smart Moves now operates in our school, which means that our junior  students must participate in some school organised physical activity each week.
·          Our school will receive an upgrade in our operating systems (MOE), that  will improve computer access.
·          Our teachers will receive a laptop to further develop their skills in order to  apply them to student learning.
·          National computer monies will begin to  flow in the next year.
·          Student Reporting changes have now been enacted.
·          Numeracy, Literacy, Integrated Computer Technologies, Gifted and  Indigenous initiatives are currently in an  implementation stage in Queensland  schools.
·          Developing Performance Frameworks for  staff.

As Principal, I will continue to ensure that change is managed in a way that ensures it is focused on student achievement.

The Aldridge School Annual Report is now available at http://aldridgeshs.eq.edu.au/wcmss/ and press the School Annual Report button.  Hard copies are available from the school by request.
Extra curricular activities are often a core issue as to why students enjoy school.

Today I would like to sing the praises of Luned Higgins and the large groups of students that she works with in relation to academic competitions.

Our Junior Debaters (Tayla McGrath, Georgina Gott, Rachel Vandersteen and Amanda Milzewski [sub]) last weekend competed in the State Finals against three other teams. Winning through to this round is an astounding achievement given the number of schools (state and independent) in the state. They ultimately came third at the State finals. Great work!

Kristina Ree was also in the state schools Apex finals last weekend. Kristina won the State Final and is now through to the National Final in July in Toowoomba. Once again what a wonderful achievement. Results like this say a great deal about our students, the dedication of our staff and our school.

Further results include:
Ø  Our chess team being ranked first in Wide  Bay South and looking forward to finals for  Wide Bay in August
Ø  Taylor McGrath coming second  in the Regional Rostrum finals.
Ø  10 Students currently preparing  to compete in the Speech Making  section of the Eisteddfod in  August.
Ø  Three teams of students once  again preparing to do battle in the  regional OPTI Minds competition  (we have come first and second in  the last two years).

Go the Ridge!

Don’t forget the P & C Meeting next Tuesday, 10 June 7.00 pm

Thought about joining the P&C?
How about doing volunteer work at the tuckshop?
Perhaps being available for three or four times a year to help prepare for set functions?

Great schools and excellent education is built on relationships.

Our P&C needs to revitalise after the loss of some long term members - with the hall finally being paid off and their children finishing Year 12.

Our P&C allows members to know more about what is happening at school, it allows a say in the direction in P&C funds and a chance to be involved in decision making about school policy and direction.

Meetings are on the second Tuesday of each month - next meeting being Tuesday, 10 June 2008. Meetings are held in the Administration Block starting at 7.00 pm and finishing at or before 9.00 pm.

The P&C and Tuckshop provide a great way to be involved with our school and the community without the big investment in time. Please give it some thought.

Please phone the school on 4120 8444 and ask for Mr Ed Manley and I will direct you to the right folk and answer any questions.

The school has hosted a number of events recently which have engaged students in learnings that they would not normally have had.

Our recent School ANZAC ceremony was successful in teaching about this Australian icon and in motivating students to attend the march. We had our largest numbers ever - perhaps 125 all up. We received many compliments on the caps.

Many students participated in a visiting dance program on the same day before the cross country.

A final visit came from the Boost Mobile Rock tour, where students in Performing Arts learnt light and sound board techniques together with several hundred enjoying a lunch time concert.

Students at Aldridge have a reason to attend and learn.
