Our annual Awards Night was held on Tuesday, 26 October and was a resounding success.
As usual the night began with our wonderful Art Display and finished with the formal part of the evening in the hall. A feature of the night was the announcement that our hall is now totally paid off. Past P&C members joined us on stage to celebrate this achievement.
The night was well attended by dignatories including:
Mayor Barb Hovard; Mr Chis Foley—Member for Maryborough; Mr Warren Truss, MP Wide Bay, Minister for Trade and Deputy Leader of the Nationals; Ms Karen Howes (Executive Director (Schools), Wide Bay South District and Ms Helen Starr—Principal Advisor, Education Services, Wide Bay South District.

Students Achievements
Congratulations to Jacob Lynch, Year 10, who travelled to Gympie to compete at the ABA Central Queensland Branch Archery Titles over the weekend of 15 and 16 September. Jacob won in his division of Junior Boys Compound.
Aldridge State High School was represented with five (5) students (Kelliann Milzewski, Isaac Sanderson, Courtney Berkery, Joshua Holz and Jacqui Bygraves) at the National Championships at Dandenong (Victoria) during the last week of the school holidays. States represented included teams from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and New Zealand.
Kelliann Milzewski was part of the winning U/16 Queensland Country Girls team defeating Queensland City 2 goals to 1 in the finals.
Isaac and Joshua played together in the U/15 Queensland Country boys team and reached the semi-finals.
Kelliann and Isaac were selected as ‘All Star’ players. This means they were named as one of the top five (5) players of the whole competition in their respective age groups.
Year 8 & 9 Report Cards
Year 8 & 9 Report Cards will be issued to students on Thursday, 13 December 2007 at 2.45 pm in a special form class—REPORTS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE PRIOR TO THIS TIME. Students MUST be in attendance at school on this day to collect their report cards at 2.45 pm. Students will not be permitted to sign-in in the afternoon to collect report cards. Reports will not be available for collection by students or parents on the Thursday afternoon.
Students and parents can collect report cards on Friday, 14 December 2007 from the school’s administration office between 8.00 am and 12.00 pm.
If parents wish to have their students reports posted, an A4 stamped, self-addressed envelope must be provided to the office prior to Thursday, 13 December 2007.

Biobus is coming to Aldridge! On the afternoons of 22 and 23 November, you will have an opportunity to see the Biobus as it presents careers and research in Biotechnology. How much water should children drink?
In the Queensland heat and when children are running around being active it is important they are drinking plenty of water to keep their bodies hydrated.
The recommended daily amounts of fluid are:
Remember: more water is needed if children are exercising!
Hints on how to make water more appealing to children:

Ø Let children have their own water bottles.

Ø Put ice in water when serving it, or freeze fruit pieces in ice cubes.

Ø Float a slice of lemon, lime, mint, orange or some strawberries in a jug of water at home.

Ø Add a dash of 100% juice to tint the water.

USQ Head Start Program
USQ’s Head Start Program is available again in 2008. This program offers motivated Year 12 students the opportunity to enrol in a course at USQ. The program is available to high performing students who anticipate continuing on to tertiary study at USQ. The students who are accepted pay NO tuition fees for their first subject. School Holiday Office Closure
The school administration office will be closed for the Christmas vacation period from 3.30 pm Friday, 14 December 2007, until Friday, 18 January 2008. The school office will reopen at 8.00 am Monday, 21 January 2008. We apologise for any inconvenience that this closure may cause.
Year 8 Students will resume school on Tuesday, 29 January 2008, Years 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 Students will attend on Wednesday, 30 January 2008.
