From the Principal
This is a wonderful time of the school year when we get a chance to see and hear the achievements of our students and staff.
Fresh from the formal pleasures of Awards Night, I attended the more informal Sports Awards Night. Along with many other people I enjoyed seeing our students gain rewards and the close relationships that had been built up between students and staff.
Our Film and TV Night was on Wednesday, 31 October. I noted that the technical aspects of the films have continued to improve this year.
Well done to our new school leaders at Remembrance Day on Sunday - they represented our school and community with distinction.
The school is still buzzing after the performances on the weekend of our Dance Production at the Town Hall. The productions were well supported and went off very well. Our students seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves, with the productions being very entertaining.

Rams Win Wide Bay Lions Cup
The Aldridge Rams have won the Wide Bay AFL Lions Cup competition.
The Grand Final saw them upset the more fancied North Bundaberg State High School in a tight match. The win was set up in the first quarter. Captain Travis Sperling lost his first toss for the season so the Rams were kicking against a strong breeze. The loss through injury of valuable mid-fielder Daniel Beatty meant the Rams would be under pressure at the centre bounce. The mid-fielders responded magnificently. Tim O’Brien, Tom Pherrson, Zac Edmondstone and Ben Hannam won the clearances time and time again, and racked up numerous possessions around the ground. Two clever snaps for two goals from Davin Walker and a strong mark and goal to Brad Wex meant Aldridge was one goal up at quarter time.
The middle two quarters were a hard fought affair. The Aldridge boys were playing their best football for the year. At three quarter time the Rams were one point down, but had a strong breeze to kick with in the last quarter. The Rams attacked relentlessly in the last quarter, with Brad Wex dominating in the air, well supported by smaller players around the packs.
Unfortunately Aldridge could not kick straight, and they accumulated seven straight behinds. With one minute to go, and with the Rams only five points ahead, North Bundy swept the ball forward. A mark only 15 metres out from goal seemed to have sunk the Rams. The crowd groaned as the kicked appeared to go straight through the goals. The field umpired was aware enough to realise Brad Wex had touched the ball off the boot, so only a behind was recorded. The Rams held on to this four point lead for a historic win. Hero Brad “Fingers” Wex was fittingly awarded the best on ground medallion. Best players for the Rams could not be singled out, it was a true “team effort”.
Scores (quarter by quarter)
Aldridge Rams—3.1 5.2. 7.2 7.9.51
North Bundaberg—2.13 17.3 7.5.47
Goal Scorers: Brad Wex 2, Davin Walker 2, Ben O’Brien, Sam Chew, Sam Nabaa.

A Japanese Student from Hokuba Junior High School, Kumamoto City, will be attending Maryborough High School in 2008. The young lad has studied English for four years, and loves Tennis, Baseball, Pop-Music, PE and Cooking.
We are looking for host families who can offer a friendly, supportive and caring home environment to this male student for a term, or perhaps two terms. The student is here to study at our school to improve their English conversation skills and experience life in Australia.
In return host families benefit by learning about the Japanese culture and making friends with a person from another country.
For further information, please phone Sharon Polley on 4123 1715 or leave your name at the School Office.

State Athletics Championships
Recently we had five Aldridge students represent Wide Bay at the Queensland Athletics Championships in Brisbane. All five did fantastically well even if their placings did not necessarily reflect this. In most cases, students did a personal best or at least were close to their best. Alice Williams was the star with two gold medals and a bronze in the three throws. Aimee Coleman also threw well in discus and javelin to finish 7th and 8th respectively for her best result at state titles.
All the final results are as follows.
ALICE WILLIAMS
Discus 1st
Shot Put 1st
Javelin 3rd
AIMEE COLEMAN
Discus 7th
Javelin 8th
