Junior Schools Cup

What an outstanding effort by our teams at the Junior Schools Cup- two silvers, one bronze and a very unlucky 4th. Credit must go to everyone who was involved, not only the coaches and players but all the other students involved in the program as well.
There were 21 divisions, 8 venues, 110 boys’ teams, and 144 girls’ teams from different schools and Aldridge was top 4 in the state for all our teams.
The U15 boys again were 2nd in Qld making it back to back silver medals. It was a great team effort but unfortunately Holland Park were again a little too strong in the final.
The U14 girls improved one place from last year, taking out the silver medal to be 2nd in Qld. In the final the girls really took it to Craigslea SHS, taking the first set but their 5 set win in their semi-final against Nambour really took a lot out of them. They will now be training hard for Nationals in December.
The U13 girls really gelled as a team and were bronze medallists. They were also very close to making it to the final, narrowly losing their Semi-final in 3 sets. This is an outstanding effort to be third in Qld for their first year.
The U13 boys were a very unlucky 4th in Queensland. With a bit of luck they again could have been medallists but played extremely well given it was their first year as well.
A lot of credit for the success needs to go to Rob Thiele, the head of the program. Without his expert guidance and commitment to the program none of these results would be possible. He has also had valuable support from his assistant coaches David Ethell, Scott Barker and Ashleigh James.
The focus now is Nationals in December where the U16 Boys team and U14 Girls team will try and defend their National titles.
