OP1 student successful in application

10/04/2014
Aldridge State High School is extremely proud of the achievements of 2013 graduate Margie Burstow.
2013 Dux Margie Burstow not only achieved an OP 1, but was also recently awarded Griffith University’s Sir Samuel Griffith Scholarship to study a Bachelor of Music at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University.
Testament to Margie’s dedication and determination is the fact that in addition to topping every subject she studied (English, Maths B, Maths C, Chemistry, Physics and Music) to achieve the highest possible result during Year 12, she also successfully completed an Associate Diploma (Classical Piano) through the Australian Music Examination Board.
The scholarship, valued at $6000 for four years, gives Margie automatic membership to the Griffith Honours College.  Designed for high achieving students, the Honours College provides enriching experiences where students will develop skills in high demand by employers.  This covers things like leadership, teamwork, communication, community engagement, intellectual curiosity and research and work skills.
At this point in time the accomplished pianist, who also sings and plays the cello and violin, is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to study something that “she loves and makes her happy” and simply “see where it takes her”.
Once she has completed her music degree, she hasn’t ruled out continuing her studies in the Maths /Science field – possibly medicine.
Congratulations Margie, we look forward to hearing of your future success!
