Volleyball program

National Schools Cup

The volleyball extension program was set up at Aldridge SHS in 2006, with one extension class in year 8. This year, the extension program has grown to include over 150 students and continues to achieve remarkable results at both State and National Competitions.

The program is offered in the junior school as a subject timetabled as 3x50min lessons per week. Within the course, students undergo specialist training in volleyball, while exploring the concepts of biomechanics, training principles, refereeing and scoring. They also analyse their own performance using video footage and computer analysis software. In this way student are provided with a holistic approach to learning about volleyball.

As well as curriculum volleyball training, coaches run multiple training sessions outside of class time.

The senior program attempts minimize disruption to the academic needs of senior students by running training sessions during negotiated lunch, before and after school times. This year, senior players choosing ‘non-volleyball’ related subjects still obtain over 4 hrs of training per week.

With regard to curriculum time, senior students complete 20 weeks of volleyball in the senior PE course, and the school is currently exploring the viability of offering an extension course through the Physical Recreation Syllabus.
