If you want to develop money management skills, learn how to create wealth and live a comfortable lifestyle without having to worry where your next meal is coming from, then Accounting could be the subject for you.  Accounting provides students with skills to manage finances personally and in a business environment.

At Aldridge:

Accounting is an ATAR subject offered in years 10, 11 and 12. Over the three years, students develop an understanding of financial recording and reporting processes, learn Excel and MYOB applications and interpret data to make decisions.  Students can enter Accounting in year 11 and achieve success, without having completed year 10 Accounting or any junior Business subjects.

Why study Accounting?

Accounting affects the lives of everyone in modern society.  Most people need some simple form of accounting to deal with their personal financial matters such as earning, saving, investing, budgeting and paying taxes and businesses need accounting systems to enable them to operate efficiently and profitably.  The numerical, literacy, technical, financial, critical thinking, decision-making and problem-solving skills learned in Accounting enrich the personal and working lives of students. It is strongly recommended that any student wishing to study a Business or Commerce degree at university, study Accounting as it sets students up for success.

Facilities, Equipment and Software:

Accounting classes are held in computer labs to provide students with access to software on industry standard desktop machines.  Students develop skills in the use of MYOB AccountRight software and it provides transferable skills to other locally used business software applications such as MYOB Essentials, Xero, Quickbooks Online and Reckon.  Microsoft Excel is utilised extensively in Accounting and students become proficient in its use. 

Pathways:

Accounting gives students skills to better handle money in their personal lives and provides direct employment opportunities in the world of finance. Because all businesses have to manage their finances, Accounting skills are useful in all employment situations. In particular, Accounting is suited to students interested in pathways beyond school that lead to tertiary studies, vocational education or work and provides the basis in the areas of accounting, business, banking, management, finance, law, agribusiness, economics and commerce.
