Power of Passion (POP)
The Power of Passion group is a team of students who are concerned with community issues that they feel strongly about. These issues could be local, state, national or international, depending on the students involved and events that are happening. Usually, the students will assist with these issues /events by either fund-raising, promoting awareness or volunteering their time and/or labour. It is a great group to join if you want to get to know other students.
The group originated in 2011, when our students showed interest in contributing to building of an orphanage for the Forget-Me-Not Foundation in Nepal set up by Lars Olsen, a Hervey Bay man.
Since then, the group has held the Kids for Kids Day in Queens Park (2012), Mud Army at Wallace Caravan Park and fund-raising for Kids for Cancer (2013) and a fund-raiser for the Harris Family who lost everything in a house fire (2014). Later this year, the students are planning to hold another Kids for Kids day in Queens Park where Aldridge students will organise a day of fun and games for young children and volunteer their Sunday to keep these kids entertained.
Parents are most welcome to join the group to assist with supervision or teach our members about how clubs function. The group has a student President, Secretary and Treasurer who are learning the ropes re how to run a community club. If you would like to help, please contact:
2014 President: Emily Linderberg
Treasurer: Kristen Ethell Ph: (07) 4120 8446
