About the Council

The main aim of the Aldridge State High School Council is to achieve the best learning outcomes for the school’s students.  It is particularly interested in ensuring that the curriculum offered to the students and the teaching strategies used to deliver the programs reflect the aspirations of the Maryborough community for its young people.

Aldridge State High School, through its Independent Public School status has greater freedom to work with parents, students and the broader school community – including business and industry. A clear responsibility of Council is to set the strategic direction for the school and make decisions that best meet the needs of the community and improve outcomes for students.  This is achieved through its major role of advising the Principal on strategic matters and monitoring the school’s strategic direction.  The Council approves any plans, policies and documents that affect strategic maters including the school financial and infrastructure plans.

The School Council is made up of elected representatives of the staff, students and parent body.  There is also scope for the Council to co-opt members from the community who have particular skills and knowledge relevant to education and student outcomes.

The Aldridge State High School Council sponsors the Teacher and Teacher-Aide Recognition Program each year.  Council members, including student representatives call for and assess nominations in three teaching categories – Professional Knowledge, Professional Practice and Professional Engagement and three teacher-aide categories – Achieves Results; Personal Drive and Integrity; Supports Productive Working Relationships.

One of the challenges for the Council in its efforts to hold the school accountable for its actions on behalf of our students and the community is to ensure engagement with the wider community.  Community members are invited to contact the Council either through the:
