Agriculture and Horticulture plays a vital role in providing curriculum that is closely linked with the environment and revolves around the economic sustainability of the community of Maryborough.

Because of Maryborough's historical and current reliance on several agricultural and Horticultural products the Agricultural department continue to make considerable effort to maintain it's relevance to current production trends and work practices.

Agriculture started at Aldridge State High School in 1992 and over the years has built up a reputation of being able to deliver a varied and high standard curriculum with multiple learning outcomes.

The 3 ha property has a range of facilities. These include:

  • A modern 15 by 6 metre greenhouse equipped with automatic sprinkler system.
  • A large machinery and packaging shed, this allows for some low level processing of our products.
  • An outdoor hydroponic system able to produce 300 lettuce at a time.
  • A feed lot operation able to feed up to 8 steers at any one time.
  • A small citrus orchard
  • Grow various small crops
  • An aquaculture production system
  • A large trial facility for student research projects
  • A beef production herd

The beef cattle are the centrepiece of the Agricultural Department. The school has been successful in winning several major prizes within the school show circuit.
