​ABOUT:

The Building and Construction Skills subject focuses on the underpinning industry practices and construction processes required to create, maintain and repair the built environment. It provides a unique opportunity for students to experience the challenge and personal satisfaction of undertaking practical work while developing beneficial vocational and life skills.

WHY STUDY BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION?

Studying Building and Construction is a hand on practical subjecting, working with a variety of trade specific projects that deepen student understanding in all aspects of building construction.

FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE:

Students have access to a fully fitted out construction room and outside construction area to construct projects like concreting, paving, bricklaying, building set out and timber frame construction

In years 11 & 12 – Building and Construction Skills is an Applied subject. Four units of work are spread over two years. Assessment instruments used are projects and practical demonstrations.

PATHWAYS:

A course of study in Building and Construction Skills can establish a basis for further education and employment in civil, residential or commercial building and construction fields. These include roles such as bricklayer, plasterer, concreter, painter and decorator, carpenter, joiner, roof tiler, plumber, steel fixer, landscaper and electrician

TEACHER:

Our Construction Teachers have all spent time in the trade as both apprentices and qualified tradespeople before studying teaching.
