About:

Are you interested in learning about how an individual's identity can be influenced and shaped by gender, race, culture, religion, belief systems, class, and social and economic status? Social and Community Studies explores the way individuals interact within a variety of social, cultural, economic, and environmental contexts.

At Aldridge:

Social and Community Studies is a subject that is offered by the Humanities and Social Science Learning Area. It is an Applied Senior Subject offered to Year 11 and 12 students, and more recently, to Year 10 students wishing to sample a subject they may wish to pursue as part of their senior studies.

Why study Social and Community Studies?

Social and Community Studies encourages students to become active and informed citizens. The course is designed to develop social skills leading to self-reliance, self-management, and a concern for others. Students develop an appreciation and respect for diversity in the community, encouraging responsible attitudes and behaviours for effective participation in the local and wider community. Students are encouraged to think critically, creatively, and constructively about their community and environment, and their future role in it.

Pathways:

Social and Community Studies provides students with the opportunity to develop personal, interpersonal, and citizenship skills. These are all attributes that are highly valued in any workplace.

Facilities, equipment and software:

Our classrooms are fully fitted with a range of modern teaching equipment including large whiteboard, projector, and speakers to enable our students to access multimedia as part of their learning experience. Wherever possible students are exposed to practical and real-life situations.  There is Teacher Aide assistance during class for students that need one-on-one support.
